our story

The Van Buren Regional Genealogical Society was established as a non-profit organization on April 27, 1987 by a group of like-minded individuals who saw a need in the community to preserve and protect family and local history. Their goal was to collect books (including privately printed written family histories), manuscripts, photographs, and other essential items of historical interest. These items would create a collection whose purpose was to assist genealogical and historical researchers and encourage their studies. The collection was to be housed in a public entity for in-house use only that was open to the public free of charge.

our mission

The mission of the Van Buren Regional Genealogical Society is to seek out and maintain ancestral records that preserve the history of the people and places of Allegan, Berrien, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, and Van Buren counties in Michigan. To compile and present these records for the purpose of genealogical and historical studies. To cooperate with other genealogy/historical societies, libraries and museums in the Van Buren County region who share the same mission.
