MISSION OF THE VAN BUREN REGIONAL GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY * to promote the study of genealogy and local history * to provide opportunities for instruction in effective research methods * to encourage the collection, compilation and preservation of family/local history records * to work in cooperation with others who are researching in the region of southwest Michigan, in the counties of Allegan, Berrien, Cass, Kalamazoo, and Van Buren * to provide the support necessary to maintain the organization and its holdings BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP Meetings The meetings of the VBRGS are held on the 4th Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m at the Webster Memorial Library. They feature speakers that share ideas and information beneficial to researchers. Many times an extra research mini class is added to the evening event. Audience participation is always encouraged and a social time is included so that members and guests can meet, greet and share. A short business meeting is included to update members on current events and new developments in the genealogy community. Guests are welcome to attend and become familiar with the VBRGS, with the hope that they will join the society. Publications The VBRGS publishes a quarterly publication called the "Van Buren Echoes". It features queries, pedigree charts, gleanings from regional sources, special interest item columns, internet news, anecdotes, book reviews, and publication notices. Access to a Members Only Section of this website This web site is being developed to better meet the needs of our growing society. The future for a password access section of this site has unlimited capabilities and it is still being constructed. Queries Queries are accepted from members free of charge and are included in the Van Buren Echoes. You contribute to the preservation of history and share it with others As a member of the VBRGS, your dues financially support the mission of the society. Money is used to purchase and preserve original documents; purchase vital records, books, microfilm, etc.; bring in speakers for meetings and special events; print and mail the Van Buren Echoes; and maintain this VBRGS website. DONATIONS Donations are greatly appreciated and will be used for the preservation of genealogical and historical material. A donation may be made for a special project, purpose or as a memorial.
