AS OF FEBRUARY 26, 2019 OUR GENEALOGY COLLECTION HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THE TONI I. BENSON ROOM
AT THE WEBSTER MEMORIAL LIBRARY IN DECATUR. FOR THE TIME BEING IT WILL BE PLACED IN STORAGE. WE
ARE SORRY FOR THIS INCONVENIENCE BUT THE SOCIETY HAD TO TAKE MEASURES THAT WOULD ENSURE THE
PROTECTION OF OUR VERY TREASURED COLLECTION. OUR COLLECTION WAS CREATED OVER THE PAST 32
YEARS BY THE GENEROUS DONATIONS OF LOCAL GENEALOGISTS AND FAMILY HISTORIANS WHO ENTRUSTED US
TO PRESERVE THE STORIES OF THEIR ANCESTORS. WE WILL MAKE FUTURE ANNOUNCEMENTS AS PLANS FOR
OUR NEW HOME BEGIN.
APRIL 4, 2019 - UPDATE - WE ARE MOVING OUR COLLECTION OUT OF THE WEBSTER MEMORIAL LIBRARY ON
APRIL 10TH. IT WILL BE PLACED IT IN STORAGE UNTIL THE NEW
HARTFORD PUBLIC LIBRARY AND THE ART AND BONNA VANDERLYN COMMUNITY CENTER
IS COMPLETED AND READY FOR OUR COLLECTION. UNTIL THAT TIME WE WILL BE DOING AN INVENTORY OF OUR
COLLECTION AND WILL NEED THE HELP OF VOLUNTEERS.
AN ANNOUNCEMENT WILL BE MADE AS TO THE TIMETABLE FOR THIS PROJECT.
WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO BEING PART OF THE VILLAGE OF HARTFORD WHICH IS ALREADY THE HOME TO
THE VAN BUREN COUNTY MUSEUM AND HISTORICAL SOCIETY.
THE COMMUNITY OF HARTFORD AND OUR SOCIETY ARE EXISTED IN DEVELOPING HARTFORD AS GENEALOGICAL
AND HISTORICAL DESTINATION THAT WILL BRING NEW VISITORS TO THE COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC BENEFIT.
THE SOCIETY WILL NO LONGER MEET IS DECATUR, MI . FOR THE COMING YEAR WE WILL BE
MEETING AT THE VAN BUREN CONFERENCE CENTER IN LAWRENCE, MI
ABOUT THE VBRGS
Our membership is made up of a diverse group of people who enjoy sharing their love of family and
local history and genealogy research.
We welcome everyone and encourage all who have an interest.
OUR SOCIETY MEETINGS
We meet in the months of February, March, April, June, July, August, September, and October
on the 4th Monday of the month, unless otherwise noted, at 7:00 p.m.
The society owns a genealogical book and manuscript collection consisting of over 5,000 items.
These items have been protected and preserved for over 30 years by our charter member and past
society librarian TONI I. BENSON, our current society librarian PAM PENDER and the many
volunteers who have given of their time and talents.
